At Ellwood Dental, our goal is always to preserve your natural teeth and keep them healthy for as long as possible! However, there are situations where adult teeth may need to be extracted. If extraction is recommended by your dentist, Ellwood Dental is pleased to offer effective and safe tooth extractions, always committed to ensuring that you remain as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure.

Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved when it has been badly decayed or extensively damaged. Other times, there is a large chip that cannot be repaired, advanced periodontal disease that cannot be effectively treated, or a tooth with a crack that cannot be settled down. There are also times when a tooth is so badly positioned in the mouth that it should be removed so that other dental procedures, such as orthodontic treatment, can be performed. While Ellwood Dental will always try to save natural teeth, sometimes the best course of action is tooth removal.

The Ellwood Dental team will always conduct a thorough medical and drug history to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo the extraction procedure and a dental examination to determine the reason for needing an extraction Additionally, an X-ray (or radiograph) will be done to assess the position of the tooth roots and the surrounding bone. After the procedure is explained to you and consent is acquired, local anesthesia will be used to make you frozen or numb.  Once you are comfortable, a tooth extraction is then carried out with specialized tools. Ellwood Dental is committed to ensuring that you are as calm and comfortable as possible throughout the entire procedure. If you require additional sedation measures (such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), sedative medications or general anesthesia), we will be happy to coordinate your treatment with the appropriate general dentist or specialist.
